Religion has always made use of communication: sacred texts and commentaries, sermons, the use (or non-use) of images, gatherings, the media, signs in rituals and services, "dialogues" with God. Prayer isnow present on the Internet, and Christian saints are venerated on Facebook! Here, seventeen researchers look at Judaism, Christianity and Islam, but also secularism, in terms of their relationship with communication. They discuss prayer, preaching, religious architecture, liturgy, music and religious emotion, the role of images, miracles and apparitions, the subversion of spiritual traditions, the function of technique in religious practice and the significance of religious symbols, particularly when worn in public spaces, and in the media.
