ABSTRACT : My initial hypothesis is that L’Hiver de l’amour held at the ARC-MAMV in Paris in 1994 is a kind of response by orphans born within the postmodern condition as described and questioned by philosopher Jean-François Lyotard in Les Immatériaux presented at the Center Pompidou in 1985. How did Les Immatériaux, which notably aimed at showing the anxiety linked to the change currently happening in the world, caused a whole generation of artists to react, as they involuntarily found themselves in the position of orphans?
