This study presents an analysis of Avatar Therapy, which is a method of treating auditory hallucinations in patients with schizophrenia through images designed to represent the voices that schizophrenics hear. The therapy aims to reduce the use of drugs and radical treatments. The aim of the article is to understand how the aesthetics of these images manage to producing their therapeutic effect, as communication of the patient with the supposed hallucinated entity progressively emerges. The study considers the therapeutic process both as a mediation and intersemiotic translation conceptualized as a theory of communication.
