The Chinese government has implemented a new public diplomacy strategy that highlights the interpersonal dimension of the relationship to change the controversial image of its presence in Africa. Narratives involving interpersonal relationships are used by Chinese media’s Twitter platforms to endorse the latest political statement on China-Africa Community of shared future for mankind. By studying the different discursive practices of Chinese media, which are seen as the government’s or the party’s spokespersons, towards international target audiences on Twitter, this article attempts to show how Beijing mobilises interpersonal relationships in its public diplo- macy through social media.
